If you are one of the million of dog owner that have a problem with your dog jumping up on everyone, you are not alone although that’s not to any help to you.  The number one rule on how to train dog. to stop jumping is this.  The number one mistake we do is to give the dog some sort of attention when he jumps, and to the dog that’s often interpret as a reward.  So whenever your dog is jumping ignore the behavior completely.  A puppy jumping can be funny, but a 100 pound beast is not.

The first you need to teach the dog is to sit down, because it will shift the dog’s focus.  It is also a nice way to reward him when he was about to jump and did not.  So the next time your dog jumps up on you, use the sit command, and when he sits down give him a great reward.  Reward is very important because a dog will repeat the behavior it is rewarded for.  My job is to make it clear to the dog when he is rewarded and when he is not. When your repeat this a number of times your dog will see that when he sits down he gets rewarded, but nothing for jumping.

When your dog approach you and you can tell by the look on his face that he is about to jump on you, just raise you right hand to your shoulder.  This will shift the dogs focus, and to get a good look he needs to sit down because of the angle .  What do you do then? Praise him again.

The next thing you need to implement is that this behavior is done by every member of the household (babies are the exceptions of cause).

If your dog should after this every once in a while repeat this behavior, just ignore it completely, and he will stop sooner than you hope for.

This is one great way on how to train dog. from stop jumping.
